High Bit Rates for HSDPA using MIMO channels

چکیده
The ongoing work in WCDMA standardization (e.g. High Speed Downlink Packet Access work item in 3GPP) evaluates Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) transmission schemes involving multiple antennas in both the base station and the terminal. In this paper we consider both orthogonal and non-orthogonal space-time transmission concepts where one or two parallel M-QAM modulated symbol streams are transmitted through a MIMO channel. Parallel transmission using non-orthogonal space-time codes is shown to outperform many previously proposed designs. Key-Words: Space-time block codes, Transmit diversity, MIMO systems, CDMA systems

High bit rates for 3G and beyond using MIMO channels
This paper studies the applicability of selected high rate open-loop space-time codes and closed-loop beamforming concepts for future wireless systems, such as WCDMA/HSDPA. Several spectrally efficient space-time codes are evaluated and their performance is compared to related closed-loop concepts, where a feedback link from the receiver is used to aid (downlink) beamforming. The comparison is ...
متن کاملHSDPA in Gaussian MIMO Broadcast Channels
We compare the achievable throughput of time division multiple access multiple-input multiple output (TDMAMIMO) scheme illustrated in 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) MIMO technical report (TR), versus the sum-rate capacity of a space-time multiple access (STMA). These schemes have been proposed to improve 3GPP high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) channel by employing multiple ant...
متن کاملFree Space Experiments with Mimo Umts High Speed Downlink Packet Access
The HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) mode of UMTS provides high data rates to the user. In this contribution comparisons, based on free space measurements, between SISO (Single Input Single Output) HSDPA and MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) HSDPA are shown. For two transmit antennas the STTD (Space-Time Transmit Diversity) mode of UMTS is used to increase the diversity order of th...
متن کاملSystem-Level Modeling and Optimization of MIMO HSDPA Networks
Interaction between the Medium Access Control (MAC)-layer and the physical-layer routines is one of the basic concepts of modern wireless networks. Physical-layer dependent resource allocation and scheduling guarantee efficient network utilization. Accordingly, classical link-level analyses, focusing only on the physical-layer are not sufficient anymore for optimum transceiver structure and alg...
متن کاملTurbo coded HSDPA systems with transmit diversity over frequency selective fading channels
Transmit diversity is one of the key contributions to the 3G (third generation) WCDMA (wide-band code division multiple access) systems to accommodate high data-rate applications, where spatial diversity is introduced into the signal by transmitting through multiple antennas. While turbo codes are well understood to be able to provide powerful error correction ability in a SISO (single input si...
